B.E Prepared

In MOAB the locals have a tongue in cheek joke towards noobs who flock there after they first learn to jump, then quickly mangle themselves and end up in the hospital. They call them FOB: Fresh Off the Bridge.

I encourage you not to be a FOB. If you plan on jumping slider down B’s and E’s then it’s best you arm yourself with some skills. These skills are best developed at a forgiving object like the Perrine.

Perquisites: Completed an FJC

There are a variety of things that can happen to you while BASE jumping to fuck your day up. One of the more common ones is having an off-heading opening and you fly back into the object you just jumped off.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do to prevent it. You can do absolutely everything in your power correctly and you can still get fucked. Thats the game we are in and if you are not willing to accept it then there are plenty of other activities that can fill your time.

The good news is that 99% of the time, things are going to be fine, but when that 1% comes, it’s coming fast, and if you are not prepared for it, it’s going to be a bad day.

Preparing for these situations is a two part process.

1- Simulate the situation you want to get out of as closely as possible.

2- Practice the skills required to get out of the situation as quickly as possible.

There are multiple ways to approach the above. People have, and will continue to argue about which methods are the best until the end of time. I will explain all of them to you and leave the decision in your hands, because at the end of the day, It’s your hands that will either turn your canopy away from the wall, or they will be cheese grated as you slide down it.
